IDG-2000 Integrated Dual-Axis Gyroscope

Overview

InvenSense Integrated Dual-Axis Gyroscope

The IDG-2000 family is designed for optical image stabilization (OIS) applications in handset cameras and digital still cameras (DSC). It offers a +/-250°/sec full scale range and 131 LSB (1 °/sec) sensitivity in a small 4x4x0.9mm package size, the smallest and thinnest package available for a dual-axis gyro in the market today. The IDG-2000 family is the world’s first digital gyro with both SPI and I2C interfaces simplifying integration in customer platforms with high resolution 16 bit analog-to-digital converters (ADC). With exceptionally low noise at 0.033 °/s-rms in the 0.1-20Hz range, it is optimized for OIS applications. This high precision and low noise are essential to capturing sharp photographs with high resolution sensors and long range zoom lenses, especially in low light conditions.

The record setting small size of this new dual-axis gyro allows OIS to become reality in camera modules for camera phones. Power consumption is reduced by 50% compared to analog gyros with a low 4.5 mA typical current at 2.1 Volts in active mode and 5µA maximum current in sleep mode. The IDG-2000 family is available in X/Y and X/Z configurations for flexible application specific mounting options.

The device leverages InvenSense’s patented and proprietary Nasiri-Fabrication design and manufacturing platform, where the MEMS and CMOS control electronics are bonded and hermetically sealed, allowing direct electrical interconnections and testing at the wafer level. This approach minimizes parasitic capacitance and improves signal-to-noise ratios versus competitive solutions.
