InvenSense Opens Highly Automated MEMS Gyroscope Manufacturing Facility in Taiwan

New Test and Calibration Facility to Expand Capacity from 15 to 30 Million Units per Month by 2011

SUNNYVALE, Calif., January 25, 2010 – InvenSense, Inc., the number one supplier of MEMS gyroscopes1 for motion processing solutions in consumer electronics, today announced its new automated high-volume test and calibration facility in Hsinchu, Taiwan is in full operation. The new facility will support MEMS gyroscope production at 15 million units per month with plans to expand to 30 million units per month by 2011. Utilization of motion processing in consumer products is growing rapidly due to the increased market demand from gaming, digital cameras, TV remotes and smartphones. In 2009, InvenSense had to expand its operations in Taiwan by over 500% to meet customers’ demands resulting in space constraints. The new facility is 25,000 square feet and is capable of meeting continued increases in production capacity needs.

With over 100 million gyro axes shipped, InvenSense leverages its patented and production- proven Nasiri-Fabrication platform, which integrates MEMS wafers with companion CMOS electronics through wafer-level bonding to deliver wafer-level packaging and integration resulting in smaller footprints and significant reduction in backend costs. InvenSense has developed fully customized and proprietary automated test and calibration equipment capable of performing 100% out-going test and calibration for all axes simultaneously at very high throughput quantities, resulting in exceptional incoming quality performance for its customers.

“Backend test, calibration and packaging for MEMS products have historically accounted for more than 50% of the total cost of the product and has been an obstacle for many MEMS solutions to scale and satisfy stringent consumer price and performance requirements,” said Steve Nasiri, CEO and founder of InvenSense. “The combination of our unique and patented fabrication platform and our new fully automated test and calibration facility in Taiwan uniquely positions us to meet both the demand and cost requirements of our customers.”

The ISO 9000 facility is located in the Science Park area of Hsinchu, allowing InvenSense to closely manage its supply chain and outgoing quality as well as to provide same-time-zone customer support. The facility houses wafer sort, final test, sales and application support to provide localized customer service to all its customers. For more information visit InvenSense at www.invensense.com.
